Ever wonder about what's under your feet? It’s just dirt, right?
Excitingly, no. Soil is a complex mixture of living microorganisms (i.e. fungi, bacteria, protozoa, nematodes), organic matter, soil texture (silt, sand, clay), and worms, for examples. Healthy soil supports healthy plants, which, in turn, support the health of the animals and humans who eat the plants. Healthy soil is rich with fungi, bacteria, organic material and other micronutrients! These work in incredible symbiosis to support plant health and maintain soil health!
Plants work in harmony with the soil. Healthy plants have less, often zero, insect pressure and provide more nutrient dense food for us and our animals. They also are much more drought and disease resistant, grow more quickly, and produce better yields. Healthier soils lead to healthier plants. Healthier plants lead to less need for pesti

Healthier plants and food also provide the much needed nutrients that are the building blocks of human and animal health.

Many insects are the garbage disposal workers of ecosystem. If a plant is not healthy, these “pests” go to work to clean things up. Healthy plants are less palatable to most insects. Healthy plants don’t need to be cleaned up! Weeds are simply plants well suited to that soil. They are nature’s way of trying to heal the soil. Healthy soil tends to have fewer to no "weeds."
Traditionally, soil management has included heavy tillage and the application of pesticides, herbicides, and harsh chemical fertilizers. This approach has negatively impacted the microbiology of the soil and, therefore the overall health of the soil. This leaves the soil, plants, and the humans that eat the plants more unhealthy and more susceptible to pests and disease.
